Many women who are stay at home moms (SAHM) find the direct sales industry appealing because of the flexibility that it provides. They are able to make an income while still being able to stay at home with their little ones. If this is you, you may want to think about how you are introducing yourself when you are out meeting new people. If you want your business to grow, do you have the right mindset to get there?
For quite a while at the beginning of my Origami Owl journey, if I were to meet someone new, I would say that I was a SAHM. My goal with Origami Owl was to grow my business, but I was having issues talking to people about my business. I was afraid of many things, but my issues were all routed in my mindset. One of the things I realized was that I was no longer a SAHM, that I was really a work at home mom (WAHM) and I should really call myself that.
I know these are just titles, but describing yourself one way or the other really ingrains that perception in your head. If you keep calling yourself a SAHM instead of a WAHM, then you are basically telling yourself that your business is not a priority and you start to treat it that way. This is what I was doing. By telling people I was a SAHM, I was also telling myself that I don’t have a job and that it isn’t important to me when that was absolutely not true.
Now if your goals for your direct sales business are to take advantage of the discount or to casually let friends and family know that you are a representative of ‘insert brand here’, then this topic will likely not matter. But if your goal is to have a business that you want to grow, then take a look at how you are introducing yourself. Does your title match your ambitions?
