Mixing Metal Colors With Jewelry: Should I or Shouldn’t I?

I very regularly get asked, “Should I stick with one metal color or is it OK to mix them?”

I used to be the type of person that everything had to be silver and I really did not like the look of gold. I didn’t want anything gold, ever! I also thought that this would never change and that I would forever dislike gold, but that was not true. As I have looked at different designs from my fellow Origami Owl Designers on Pinterest and from looks that have been presented by the Origami Owl Nest (our corporate office), I have come to really love almost every metal color mixture.

So the answer to your question is, “Absolutely it is OK to mix metal colors!! Mix away!” To help get you on the metal mixing band wagon, here are some great examples of metal mixing that you just may fall in love with!!

Silver and Rose Gold

This combination is really pretty and has a classic look to it. The Silver is the neutral color and the Rose Gold nicely adds the pop of color to make it stand out!

Rose Gold and Gold

This is really not a common combination and this picture really does not do it justice, but it is still a fine option. An even better look would be to have a Rose Gold plate inside this locket instead of the Gold plate.

Silver and Gold

What is better than Silver and Gold?! They go together perfectly and not just because it is a line in a Christmas song! The clear Swarovski crystals in this Heritage Locket helps tie in the Silver as well.

Black and Gold

Yes, I know, black goes with everything, but this combination is what flipped my switch about gold, so I wanted to include it.

If you are still unsure about mixing metal colors, use a piece like this, that has been designed with fashion trends in mind, to tie them all together.

Stop worrying about the color of the metals and pick out items that are meaningful and that speak to you. That is what will make the whole set perfect and absolutely beautiful!
